Tires burn as armed soldiers and law enforcement officers stand in formation on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, to force Dakota Access pipeline protesters off private land where they had camped to block construction. Dakota Pipeline Protesters Forced Back After Scores Arrested:

Law enforcement officials have arrested scores of protesters at the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline, lessening the chances of another full-scale demonstration early Friday.

The heavy police presence on Thursday and the multiple arrests — at least 141, according to Morton County Sheriff Public Information Officer Donnell Hushka — mean that while the protest is not over, it is unlikely that large numbers will quickly be able to regroup.
Supporters of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe had earlier set up tents and teepees on the land, which they said belongs to the tribe under a 19-century treaty.

Plane Carrying Pence Skids Off Runway:

A plane carrying Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence skidded off a runway Thursday night as it landed at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

There were no reported injuries in the rough landing, which occurred on a rainy Thursday evening in the city.
The press pool in the back of the aircraft, a Boeing 737-700 chartered from Eastern Airlines that was painted with the campaign’s logo, could feel the plane fishtailing as it touched down and sliding off the runway before coming to a very sharp halt in the grass off the side of the runway.
Once the plane came to a full stop, the Indiana governor walked to the back of the plane to check on the press. As everyone on board deplaned, Pence could be seen speaking with emergency responders.

Democrats have nearly erased the disadvantage they previously faced in Florida and have improved upon 2012’s numbers in Nevada as millions of Americans vote early.

Democrats have also improved their position in Colorado and Arizona compared to this point in 2012, according to a CNN analysis of the latest early voting numbers.
Republicans, meanwhile, appear to be in a slightly better position in Iowa and North Carolina — where the electorate includes more whites at this stage than it did at the same point in 2012

Finally: Wrigley Field Hosts First World Series Game Since 1945:

Wrigley Field is second only to Fenway Park as the oldest stadium in Major League Baseball. But until recently, it’s been a pretty lonely place in October.

The 102-year-old ballpark known as the “Friendly Confines” has never seen its home team — the Chicago Cubs — win the World Series.
That could change in the next few days. On Friday, Wrigley will be back in the spotlight, as the ballpark is the venue for Game 3 of the 2016 World Series between the Cubs and Cleveland Indians. It will be the first World Series game there in 71 years.

Bela And Martha Karolyi Sued By Ex-Gymnast Claiming Abuse By Doctor:

Bela and Martha Karolyi, famed coaches of gymnastics legends, are being sued along with a former USA Gymnastics doctor by an ex-gymnast who says she was sexually assaulted by the physician.

The suit against the Karolyis and Dr. Larry Nassar was filed Thursday in Superior Court in Los Angeles County, where the plaintiff now lives. The complaint alleges the Karolyis “turned a blind-eye to Nassar’s sexual abuse of children.”
The lawsuit says the alleged abuse occurred at a Karolyi-run facility in Texas that also served as the training site for USA Gymnastics, also a defendant.
