(WOIO) -

An extradition hearing for murder suspect Nathan Summerfield was held Friday morning in Medina County.

Summerfield, who is accused of killing ex-girlfriend Lynn Jackenheimer while vacationing in North Carolina, waived extradition. He will now be transported back to North Carolina to face charges.

Summerfield was arrested at a Medina County hotel on Wednesday morning after weeks on the run.

Summerfield was the center of a nationwide manhunt conducted by U.S. Marshals, and was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. at the Wadsworth Legacy Inn on High Street.

According to the U.S. Marshal, Summerfield had been staying at the hotel for just one day. He was checked in under a fictitious name.

Police say Jackenheimer went to Nags Head, North Carolina with Summerfield and her children. Police say Summerfield killed Jackenheimer July 3. Summerfield returned on Sunday, July 9 with the children. He dropped the kids off at their grandparents and fled.

Summerfield grew a full beard while on the run. He was not armed at the time of his arrest, and put up no resistance.

The U.S. Marshal also said that if anyone was harboring Summerfield over the course of the last several weeks, they could face federal charges.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “This has been an intensive investigation following a horrible crime.  We are extremely relieved and thankful that the time and effort poured into this manhunt has resulted in the safe capture of Nathan Summerfield and this hopefully brings some relief and justice to the family and friends of Lynn Jackenheimer.”

Ashland County Sheriff E. Wayne Risner stated, “This was a great coordinated effort by all the law enforcement partners involved.  It is truly great to see the response and dedication that these officers put forward when tragedy struck family and friends within our county.”

Summerfield’s family has hired an attorney to defend him.
